A Centers for Disease Control and Prevention supported research paper, "Autism Spectrum Disorders in Relation to Distribution of Hazardous Air Pollutants in the San Francisco Bay Area" by Windham et al. has appeared in the National Institutes of Health's own journal, Environmental Health Perspectives and was supported by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The researchers conclude in this study, "Results of this semiecologic study suggest that living in areas with higher ambient levels of HAPs, particularly heavy metals [i.e. mercury]...during pregnancy or early childhood, may be associated with a moderately increased risk of autism."
This study would seem to make the CDC's vaccine division assertion that there is no possibility for mercury to induce autism, rather suspect, since the CDC's own sponsored study has found a link between mercury exposure and autism. It would seem that Drs. Offit, Nelson, Bauman, et al.
who have been making public comments that mercury does not cause autism seem rather dubious. Furthermore, since by the CDC's own calculations the Thimerosal (mercury) found in the vaccines accounted for mercury than 50% of the total dose of mercury than infants received during the key developmental periods within the first year of life, and accounted and continues to account for even more among those pregnant women receiving Rhogams and influenza vaccines, one would have to admit that mercury from Thimerosal-containing vaccines/biologics should be playing a significant role in the development of autism.
Oh, and by the way, that is exactly what Verstraeten et al. have found in their many initial assessments of the Vaccine Safety Datalink (VSD) database, what we have reported in our own peer-reviewed epidemiological studies based upon assessments of various databases, and what numerous other researchers have published in peer-reviewed journals on the clinical and molecular basis for an association between Thimerosal exposure and autism. -David Geier
