Jim Rice of Springfield Missouri navigates North on Fort St. between Chestnut Expressway and College.
Jim Rice of Springfield Missouri navigates north on West St. between Chestnut Expressway and College.

This roadway sees an incredible amount of pedestrian traffic. Many times at night.

Although there is a sidewalk on West, it is not designed to be navigable by wheel chairs. Although there is a sidewalk on Fort it is not designed to be navigable by wheel chairs.Water, Mud, Rough Transitions between sidewalk and driveway, and other things impede easy navigation. This is why Jim chooses to wheel against traffic on the road.

What kind of solution would Jim suggest?

He would prefer a sidewalk be put up along Chestnut Expressway before investing money in fixing or adding to the sidewalk on N. West St.

Why?

He already has access on West Street but is unable to navigate up and down Chestnut Expressway without winding around on all the back roads that have poorly maintained or no sidewalks at all.

It's an issue of Safety and Convenience.

I think that this story needs to find its way to the desk of Zone-1 Councilman Denny Whayne and his fellow City Councilpersons. As I recall part of Denny's agenda when he was running for re-election was to put more sidewalks in the Northwset side of town. This seems to have even greater importance when the citizens of Springfield are in danger. I think that if this story finds its way to Council they will respond. You have my support.

Want to talk Safety? Let's talk sidewalks...

This couple walks North on Scenic in the Boondoggle Intersection of Chestnut Expressway, Scenic, and College.

You should see the kids on skateboards...
