The Minuteman movement has presented itself here in Springfield. But are they telling the whole story about who else has joined their cause?

Will Dan Scott serve you or Matt Blunt and the GOP?

Politics

Dan Scott will be a Matt Blunt Puppet

In the latest Missouri Ethics Commission reports, Dan Scott willingly accepted a contribution from the Matt Blunt Campaign.

What does this say for his claims to be for the people?  The same people who have felt the pain of losing health care because of Blunt.  The Same people that were forced to choose between dignity by earning some money, and the health care that keeps them alive.

Dan Scott has already shown us he is not on our side.

His reports also show that few if any money collected come from residents of the 137th District.  He was quick to accept money from the GOP.

Do not be fooled by Dan's smoke and mirrors pony show.  He is not from the 137th and he is not on our side.  He will be just another republican puppet dancing to Jetton and Blunt's pretty little song.

If you want real independent representation then I suggest you write me in on November's ballot.  I, Chris Fluharty promise to be free from political grips.  And no PAC or business can by my vote.

Thank you and please write in Chris Fluharty this November.

From the Mail Bag: CDC Supported Study Links Mercury Exposure with Autism

Health Care

A Centers for Disease Control and Prevention supported research paper, "Autism Spectrum Disorders in Relation to Distribution of Hazardous Air Pollutants in the San Francisco Bay Area" by Windham et al. has appeared in the National Institutes of Health's own journal, Environmental Health Perspectives and was supported by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The researchers conclude in this study, "Results of this semiecologic study suggest that living in areas with higher ambient levels of HAPs, particularly heavy metals [i.e. mercury]...during pregnancy or early childhood, may be associated with a moderately increased risk of autism."

This epidemiological study, whose researchers are from the Division of Environmental and Occupational Disease Control, California Department of Health Services and Kaiser Permanente Medical Care Program, Division of Research, evaluated 284 children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and 657 controls, born in 1994 in the San Francisco Bay area. They assigned exposure level by census tract of birth residence for 19 chemicals identified as potential neurotoxicants, developmental toxicants, and/or endocrine disruptors from the 1996 HAPs database. They calculated ASD risk in the upper quartiles of these group scores or individual chemical concentrations compared with below the median, adjusting for demographic factors.

These researchers found mercury exposure, among the individual compounds examined, was the most statistically significantly associated with ASD (adjusted relative risk = 1.92, 95% CI = 1.35-2.71).

From the Mail Bag: Latest Drug in Middle School - 'Dusting'

Family

First, I'm going to tell you a little about me and my family. My name is Jeff. I am a Police Officer for a city which is known nationwide for it's crime rate. We have a lot of gangs and drugs. At one point we were # 2 in the nation in homicides per capita. I also have a police K-9 named Thor. He was certified in drugs and general duty. He retired at 3 years old because he was shot in the line of duty. He lives with us now and I still train with him because he likes it. I always liked the fact that there was no way to bring drugs into my house. Thor wouldn't allow it. He would tell on you. The reason I say this is so you understand that I know about drugs.

I have taught in schools about drugs. My wife asks all our kids at least once a week if they used any drugs. Makes them promise they won't.

I like building computers occasionally and started building a new one in February 2005. I also was working on some of my older computers. They were full of dust so on one of my trips to the computer store I bought a 3 pack of DUST OFF. Dust Off is a can of compressed air to blow dust off a computer. A few weeks later when I went to use one of them they were all used. I talked to my kids and my two sons both said they had used them on their computer and messing around with them. I yelled at them for wasting the 10 dollars I paid for them.

On February 28 I went back to the computer store. They didn't have the 3 pack which I had bought on sale so I bought a single jumbo can of Dust Off. I went home and set it down beside my computer.

On March 1st, I left for work at 10 PM. Just before midnight my wife went down and kissed Kyle goodnight. At 5:30 am the next morning Kathy went downstairs to wake Kyle up for school, before she left for work. He was propped up in bed with his legs crossed and his head leaning over. She called to him a few times to get up. He didn't move. He would sometimes tease her like this and pretend he fell back asleep. He was never easy to get up. She went in and shook his arm. He fell over. He was pale white and had the straw from the Dust Off can coming out of his mouth. He had the new can of Dust Off in his hands. Kyle was dead.

From the Mail Bag: credit card companies now charging overe 30% if you send in a late payment

Hi All, I got my Amercan Express Bill today which I usually pay off each month. But last month I did not pay it off and so when I looked at the interest amount it seemed high.

I examined the bill more closely and found that the interest I was being charged was 30.24%!!!!!!!!!.

I called up American Express who apologized and said my last payment may have come in late but there was no late charge so he put me back to the rate I had for 5 years which is 9.9%.

I asked what triggered this and he said if a customer has 1 late payment tier rate is permanently changed to 30.24%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am sure American Express is not alone in doing this but I cut up my card anyway and sent them a payment in full to get rid of the balance and will most likely never use them again.

I am hoping you get this warning because this is horrible that the credit card companies can do this to people especially since they have changed the bankruptcy laws to make it very difficult for people to declare bankruptcy

Girls Night In: Restaurant Review of the Month

Walking into Fish I felt a sense of relaxation. The place was lit up by natural light coming from the many windows surrounding the restaurant. The large oval bar is located in the center of the restaurant and adds to the ambience of the place with it's dim mini shades for lighting. There are many choices on Fish's menu from Crab Cakes, Alaskan Snow Crab to Mahi Mahi (which I just might have to try next time), there's something to suit all taste buds here. There are also a lot of appetizers on the menu for those on a budget. I ordered the:

Mississippi Fried Catfish
Breaded in cornmeal and served with tartar sauce (served with your choice of two sides) $9.99. I ordered seasoned fries and garlic redskin whipped potatoes for my two sides. Raspberry tea to drink.

The portions were generous and the catfish was fresh, yummy and just might be the best catfish I've ever had! I will definitely be back soon for this entr?e. The seasoned fries were so tasty I skipped the ketchup, which I never do being a ketchupholic. The garlic redskin whipped potatoes were also very good, a first for me and being a fan of red potatoes made for a tasty side. Overall Fish adds a new twist to seafood and you will not be disappointed if you are a seafood lover. My biggest complaint would be that the service was not that great, mainly because we waited 35 minutes for our food. They were busy and this might explain why it took so long.
